Fodder for Butterflies and Bees
Besides good nectar plants, butterflies need special host or larval plants on which to lay their eggs. After the eggs hatch, the caterpillar or larva spends its life eating the leaves of the host plant. Not any plant will do for caterpillars. Each butterfly species has its preferred host plants. Butterflies particularly like plants that have flat pads.
Anne introduced us to live specimens of native and horticultural plants that feed larvae and adults. Her presentation was entertaining and very informative.
